North Toronto's Music program is considered to be one of the best in the city. There are many ensembles: the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Senior Strings and Junior Strings, Symphonic Band, Junior Band, Stage Band and Jazz Choir, Marching Band, Choral Ensemble, Chamber Choir, and Women's Chorus. Most ensembles participate in The Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival in February or the Ontario Vocal Festival as it has for many years.
North Toronto has the oldest Marching Band and one of very few connected to a high school in Toronto and can be seen every November in the Toronto Santa Claus Parade. The Marching Band also plays several other Christmas parades including Markham and a number of malls.
A very strong Music Parents' Council helps to fund the program assisted by the students of the Music Council, which is annually elected. The Music Parents' Council also runs an "Adopt an Instrument" program to help maintain our vast store of aging instruments. If you are interested in helping, please contact the Music Department at the school.
The Music Council raises funds by selling baked goods and beverages at various functions throughout the year. They will also be running a yard sale in the spring (date TBA).
Some music events include a fall concert, Fall Fare, in November, a stage band concert in March, and the famous Maytime Melodies in late April/early May
