The line y = m x + b with a Point

Move the m and b sliders one at a time, and then together to discover how each transforms the line.
Click the point and slide it along the line to find any coordinate point on any line.
Use the refresh button at the top right of the applet to reset the applet to its original state.

REMEMBER:

 

m is the slope is

the rate of change of y with respect to x.

the constant of variation k in the equation y = k x

 

b is the initial condition, or the y–intercept.
